This artist is set to go hip-hopping from Mumbai slums to London BBC radio

25-year-old hip-hop artist Vivian Fernandes aka Divine

Vivian Fernandes aka ‘Divine’s’ journey from the streets of JB Nagar, Andheri to showcasing his music on an internationally recognized platform is inspiring to say the least.

Vivian, a true blue hip-hop artist, has signed a deal with Sony Music and will soon embark on a journey to London’s BBC radio, where he will be performing in a talent show for aspiring artists like him.

Other than Vivian’s record deal, he also has the distinction of being the first Indian artist whose video was promoted by Apple Music. His latest composition, ‘Jungli Sher’, represents the voice of the common man and croons his story from the gullies of Mumbai. His earlier release ‘Yeh Mera Bombay’ went viral immediately after it’s release and was picked up by radio stations across the country.

During the initial days of Vivian’s journey he struggled with English. But reading newspapers and watching English shows helped him master the language. Now he is able to rap effortlessly in both English and Hindi.

As far as competition is concerned, the 25-year-old isn’t flummoxed by it. In fact, he is actually friends with all his contemporaries, as he believes the world of hip-hop is a close-knit one.
