Don’t allow people with more than 2 children to vote, says Union Minister

Don't allow people with more than 2 children to vote, says Union Minister 2On Thursday, Union minister Giriraj Singh proposed that India implement a two-child policy, similar to China’s, in a bid to control population.

“If Malaysia and Indonesia can make the law, then there must be a strict law. The nation won’t progress without population control. There must be a balance. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians — all must have at least one to two children. Those who don’t follow, their voting rights must be revoked,” Singh told ANI.

Singh’s statement is believed to have stemmed from a recent report that showed two Bihar districts where Muslim population was growing faster than the Hindu population.

A day prior to his statement to ANI, while speaking at a yatra in West Champaran, Singh was quoted saying, “Hindus should have two sons and so should Muslims. Our population is declining. Bihar has seven such districts where our population has gone down. Population rules have to be changed, only then will our daughters be safe. Otherwise, like Pakistan, we too will have to keep our daughters under a veil.”

This isn’t the first time Singh’s statements have stirred a controversy. A few weeks back, he had said that the fatwa asking Muslim community members to not chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ was a conspiracy to destroy India. A month back he had accused Akhilesh Yadav’s government of turning Uttar Pradesh into a nursery of terrorism. During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he had asked those critical of Modi to be sent to Pakistan.
