In a bizarre incident, a 48-year-old man stabbed his wife to death for allegedly returning home late after attending a function organised to celebrate Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary this Thursday.

The man, identified as Rajendra Sawant, is a resident of Sankeshwar Nagar in Nalasopara (East). Sawant got furious when his wife Ranjana returned home at around 11 pm which, according to him, was too late. In a fit of rage, he stabbed on her abdomen using a kitchen knife.

Ranjana’s daughter-in-law Aruna alerted the neighbours who got hold of Sawant. In the melee, she too sustained injuries on her hand.

The Tulinj police have arrested Sawant and have booked him for murder.
