Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar's movie banned by the Censor board

Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar in Mohalla Assi

‘Mohalla Assi’ a movie starring Sunny Deol and television actress Sakshi Tanwar was recently banned by the Censor Board on account of profanity.

The film loosely based on the novel by Dr. Kashinath Singh, takes a satirical take on the commercialization of the pilgrimage city of Varanasi.

The trailer for the movie itself turned heads when straight-laced Sunny Deol and Sakshi Tanwar were seen swearing in it.

Mohalla Assi was set to release in August last year but the Delhi High Court held it back claiming it hurt religious sentiments. However, it had not yet been presented to the Censor Board of Film Certification.

And when the movie was recently screened for them, the Pahlaj Nihalani headed board, instead of giving an A (Adult only) certification, completely banned the movie.

Director Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, who is also a member of the Censor Board, is miffed about the ban and has spoken against the conservative elements of the Censor Board.
