1. Last week an elderly man, accompanied by his son, walked straight into Nagpada police station carrying a rifle in hand.

2. The sheer confidence with which Fateh Mohammed Chowdhary strutted in with the uncovered firearm caught everyone’s attention. The head constable, who was the first to spot the father-son duo, immediately asked them the purpose of their visit.

3. Chowdhary then revealed he wanted to renew his arms licence and had been the owner of the gun for more than two decades.

4. The .12 gauge caught the fancy of all the cops at the station, with some even resorting to posing and aiming with it. A handful of senior officials also told Chowdhary that the rifle made them nostalgic as it was similar to police’s .303 gauge, which was discontinued earlier this year.

5. Post the incident, Chowdhary revealed to a leading daily that he had inherited the gun from his father and brought it with him when he moved to Nagapada. He also revealed that he had fired the .12 gauge only once at a wedding in 1988 and though he still had two rounds left, he had no plans of using them.
