1. Actress Celina Jaitley, who had taken a sabbatical from Bollywood for four long years, has been an active LGBT rights activist and recently spoke up about how the LGBT community won’t be free till section 377 of IPC exists.

2. Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, dating back to 1860 and introduced during the British rule of India, criminalizes homosexual activities.

3. “The way we started, there is a huge difference. Be it the sponsors, media, people or even Bollywood. But our biggest challenge will always be there as long as section 377 exists,” she told Times of India. The 34-years old actress was speaking at the closing ceremony of ‘Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival’, which showcases old and new LGBT films and is India’s only mainstream LGBT film festival.

4.“We have received so many national and international entries this time, which is a good news. Because films influence the generation, not only the current one but also the coming ones,” added the festival ambassador.

5. Other than Celina Jaitley, actors like Nandita Das, Aditi Rao Hydari, Purab Kohli, Pratik Babbar and singer Anushka Manchanda have also voiced their support for the LGBT community in the past.
