1. The state government is mulling over converting a 2.3-kilometre stretch between Versova and Juhu beach into Mumbai’s new sea-facing promenade. The ambitious project also includes building a water sports facility along the chosen stretch.

2. For the new tourist destination offering water sports, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has also sent invites to private developers. The government plans to let the agency manage and operate the new water sports hub for at least five years.

3. The beachfront water sports facility will include rowing, wind surfing, winch parasailing, jet skiing, speed boating and many other activities.

4. A minimum licence fee of Rs 8 lakh per annum will be levied upon the private developer in possession of the land. The developer will also be responsible for building security watch towers that would be used by the police stationed at the coast.

5. Meanwhile, plans are afoot to install temporary benches and beach toilets for the public at the sea-front. Currently, water sport activities are offered only at Chota Chowpatty beach in South Mumbai.
