Khar police has booked a serving constable and his wife for allegedly cheating two individuals under the guise of helping them secure a home in the city. The couple had reportedly promised to help them get a house in a slum and taken Rs 4 lakh as booking amount.

The duo filed a complaint against the couple at Khar police station after they failed to deliver what was promised and return the initial amount paid to them.

The accused, Narendra Buga, is a constable with Malvani police station and resides at Khar Danda with his wife Seema Buga. The victims had contacted the couple in March and expressed their interest in buying a home in the nearby slum.

Owing to his police service, Buga was well connected and in a position to ‘get things moving’.

After assuring the victims of a home, Buga and his wife asked them to pay Rs 2 lakh each as a booking amount in cash. The accused had asked them for a few day’s time before the deal could be finalized.

But, when days turned into weeks, the complainants got anxious and started following up with the couple on a regular basis. At one point, they realised that the deal may not materialise and asked the couple to return the money. But, the Bugas refused to return the amount.

After booking them for cheating, Khar police arrested Seema Buga and initiated an enquiry against her constable husband. He will be taken into custody after the enquiry is over.
