If an average Indian, irrespective of whether he or she is a fan of Indian TV shows, was asked to name the funniest ‘desi’ show of all time, ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ would most certainly feature in top 5.

For the inundated, the show revolves around the lives of an affluent South Bombay Gujarati family, whose daughter-in-law is from a middle class Delhi background. Starring veterans like Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak and Sumeet Raghvan, the show first aired in 2004 and tickled our funny bones for one full season with 69 episodes.

Ever since the show went off air in 2006, the show has amassed a massive cult following. Their rating of 9.3 on IMDB, with over 6500 votes, is a testament to that. But, it’s popularity wasn’t just limited to the audiences, critics loved it too and showered it with awards. In its two year run, it managed to get over 10 television awards including Best Serial (Comedy), Best Director (Comedy), Best Actor (Comedy) and more.

At the end of the first season, the makers had hinted at a second season. But, for reasons best known to then, it never took off. Ever since then, audiences have been waiting for the show’s return. In 2012, however, the show’s director Deven Bhojani categorically denied that the series would return.

But, the showrunners and cast played cruel. They kept teasing audiences with pictures of their reunion meets and giving rise to speculation about the show’s return, only to disappoint them later.

Today though, there’s a new ray of hope. The show’s producer JD Majethia shared a picture with the entire cast of ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ gathered at Satish Shah’s house in Mumbai and captioned it “Sarabhai family at satish ji ‘s place…. Some good news for fans on its way”

We also reached out to a member of a cast, who wished to remain anonymous, to confirm the news. While the cast member failed to give us a direct answer, they confirmed that ‘something is definitely cooking’ and that we’d have to wait a little bit longer to find out.
