Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’ may have opened to mixed reviews, but as often is the case with the superstar’s films, reviews have little impact on box-office collections. The Rajinikanth and Radhika Apte starrer released worldwide across 9,000 screen on July 22.

Kabali reportedly earned Rs 48.95 crore on the day of release in India, beating Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ by a considerable margin. With a collection of Rs 36.5 crores on day one, the Salman starrer had claimed the biggest opening of 2016. With ‘Kabali’, Thalaiva also broke his own box-office day one record, which stood at Rs 37 crores earlier.

According to TollyTrendz, ‘Kabali’ earned Rs 30 crore on the second day and Rs 35 crore on the third day of its release, taking the weekend collection total to a whopping Rs 114 crore in India alone. Although, the collections were expected since thousands of theaters reported that the tickets for the weekend shows were pre-booked.

The film, which released across 400 screens in US and Canada, also managed to break the the opening day collection records of Salman’s ‘Sultan’ and Aamir’s ‘PK’ in the US. With a weekend collection of $3 million, it has already become the second highest grossing south Indian film at the US box office.

“It is easily the best opening for an Indian film from premiere shows in North America. The film has collected USD 2 million from the premiere shows and it includes both the Tamil and Telugu version of Kabali,” Sanjay Dusari, co-founder of CineGalaxy Inc, told IANS.

According to Ramesh B, a trade analyst from Tamil Nadu, the film has reportedly collected over Rs 200 crores over the weekend. Ramesh tweeted his collection estimate on his micro-blogging account saying, “By early estimates, #Kabali has crossed Rs 200 Cr gross @ WW BO for the Opening wknd: India – ₹ 123 Cr, Overseas – ₹ 87 Cr, Total – ₹ 210 Crs”

Box-office collection aside, the film, which was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore, has already earned about Rs 225 crores from the sale of theatrical, audio and satellite rights.
