It is one thing when Anurag Kashyap is at loggerheads with the Censor Board for his brand of ‘gritty’ cinema, but who would have thought a Karan Johar film would land in trouble with the board.

But according to a report on Bollywood Hungama, that’s exactly what happened after the board reviewed Johar’s upcoming production ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ for certification.

The makers of the Siddharth Malhotra-Katrina Kaif starrer wanted a ‘UA’ certificate for their film. But the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was adamant about giving the ‘UA’ certification only after the makers agreed to remove a shot of a brassiere from the film.

On the development, a member of the Baar Baar Dekho team told the entertainment portal, “Are we living in the Victorian era when women’s innerwear was never spoken of in public? Years ago in 1995 there was a bra shot featuring Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan. And Baar Baar Dekho is directed by a woman. So the chances of lingerie being used to titillate the audience are nil.”

Removing the ‘offensive’ shot wasn’t the board’s only demand though. They also wanted the makers to remove the reference to ‘Savita Bhabhi’, a comic book character known for her sexual exploits.

“The CBFC asked the producers of Baar Baar Dekho to delete a reference to Savita Bhabhi. The name is used in a jokey light-hearted manner in the film. If a porn reference is objectionable then how come Sunny Leone’s name was used in A Flying Jatt?,” the source added.

For now, the makers have agreed to the cuts and have ended with a ‘UA’ certification.

Just two months back, CBFC was embroiled in a controversy after it asked the makers of ‘Udta Punjab’ to make 89 cuts despite giving an ‘A’ certificate. In the end, the producers approached the court and ended up releasing the film with just one cut.

Helmed by Nitya Mehra, Baar Baar Dekho is set to release on September 9.
