During evening peak hours on Friday, a rail fracture on the fast line between Dadar and Matunga stations affected services on the Central Line.

The issue came to light around 6:10 pm on Friday evening, following which fast trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) were diverted to the slow lane from Byculla. Trains to Thane were running late by around 15 minutes as of 6:50 pm.

The disruption had led to overcrowding at Dadar station. A commuter also confirmed that trains from CST, which are all running on the slow line from Byculla currently, are also more crowded than usual.

CR authorities acknowledged the issue around 6:40 pm and said repair work was underway.

Further details are awaited.

Update (7:20 pm): While the repair work is underway, trains are being run via loop line between Dadar and Matunga stations. Trains to Thane are running late by 20-25 minutes.

Update (8:15 pm): CR authorities have confirmed that the repair work has completed and fast trains are running on normal route as of 7:54 pm.
