Commuters at Lonavala station witnessed a bizarre incident during the wee hours of Monday, when a young woman fell off the train and got stuck in the platform gap, and miraculously lived to tell the tale.

A video of the incident, captured on the station’s CCTV, is now going viral on the internet.

The footage shows a female commuter losing her balance while jumping off a train as it leaves the station. The lady falls off the train and gets partially stuck in the gap between the platform and the moving train.

Fortunately, a Maharashtra Police constable came to her rescue and pulled her towards the station in the nick of time. The constable, Pawan Tayde, is attached with Lonavala station.

Another man fell off the train at the same time, but landed safely. Neither the man nor the woman suffered any major injuries.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Monday when Kakinada Express, which was travelling from Pune to Mumbai, was leaving the Lonavala train station.

Pawan’s act of bravery was also lauded by Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who took to his microblogging account to thank the constable for saving the woman’s life.

“Had my heart in my mouth literally! Salute to constable Pawan Tayde of Lonavala police station for his presence of mind and swift action,” Akshay tweeted.

Incidentally, Akshay is among the fittest actors in Bollywood and has also played the role of a cop in various movies like Mohra, Rowdy Rathore and Khakee.

In July, a report released by the Comptroller and Auditor General stated that 33,445 people had died while commuting on trains over the past five years. Around 15 percent of deaths were related to people falling off running trains.
