A 28-year-old police constable is feared drowned in the Gaimukh creek in Thane West. The official had visited the creek during the wee hours of today.

The constable, Bharat D Raote, is attached to the Thane Police Commissionerate. He has been on sick leave since September 24.

According to a police control room official, Raote went to Gaimukh creek early this morning along with his friends. While trying to answer the nature’s call, he apparently slipped into the water and got washed away at around 3 am today.

Following the incident, Raote’s friends informed the local police about the mishap.

The fire brigade and police have launched a search to trace him, said Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam.
