A 28-year-old accused in a theft case allegedly escaped from the lock-up of the Nalasopara police station on Saturday morning by breaking through the roof.

According to an official, the accused broke the tin roof of the lock-up and fled around 5:30 am on Saturday morning.

Officials came to know about his escape around 7:30 am, when cops on night duty went for their routine round of the lock-up.

A search operation has been launched to arrest the accused, said a police official.
