Entertainment network Viacom18 in collaboration with NGO Mumbai First has adopted three suburban railway stations for cleanliness and beautification as part of the Central Government’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.

The initiative is part of ‘Hamara Station Hamari Shaan’ campaign, that involves beautification of 36 suburban railway stations in the metropolis.

The campaign was flagged off at Bandra station by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, BJP MP Poonam Mahajan and Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor on Sunday.

Under the Viacom18’s flagship CSR programme ‘Chakachak Mumbai’, the company will support beautification of Andheri, Vile Parle and Ghatkopar stations with the help of volunteers throughout the week, a release issued stated.

In keeping with the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Chakachak Mumbai involves a massive sanitation intervention and behaviour change advocacy programme to encourage good hygiene habits among Indian citizens.

“As part of our Chakachak Mumbai campaign, an initiative in health and sanitation, we have extended our outreach to promotion of cleanliness at these important landmarks,” said Sonia Huria, Head–Communications and CSR, Viacom18.

“Not only are the railway stations an integral part of a Mumbaikar’s daily life, they are great places to spread the message of behavioural change,” she said.

Huria said the company will also contribute to the creative designs for toilet walls at these stations. Social messages, including those on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, will be incorporated in the designs.

Speaking at the event, actor-producer Anil Kapoor said in a statement, “This is terrific. So many people, from all walks of life, coming together to make Mumbai’s lifeline – our railway system – jhakkas! And what better time to kick off this collaborative effort to give back to society than during Daan Utsav on Gandhiji’s birth anniversary.”
