Over 40 vehicles and 200 shops were completely gutted in a major fire that broke out in a temporary firecrackers market in Aurangpura, Aurangabad on Saturday morning, officials said.

There were no human casualties as all the shopkeepers and customers managed to escape to safely before the blaze engulfed the market.

The fire started around 11:30 am in the temporary firecracker market setup at the Zilla Parishad Ground under Krantipura Police Station.

However, at least a dozen four-wheelers and more than two dozen two-wheelers parked in the vicinity were engulfed in the blaze and destroyed.

Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the fire was brought under control in one hour. The exact cause of fire is still unknown.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and other senior officers are on the spot. An official statement is expected soon.

Meanwhile, locals have been advised to stay away from the affected area due to the presence of a smoke laced with harmful chemicals.

Just yesterday, in a similar incident, a major fire had engulfed a cracker shop in Vadodara. The incident took place in Rustampura village of Waghodia taluka on Friday evening.

Fire tenders were quickly rushed to the spot, but at least eight people died and several others were injured in the incident.
