Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (ADHM), which was mired with controversy ahead of its Diwali release, has managed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark within a week of its worldwide opening.

Released on October 28, the romantic drama has managed to earn Rs 74.01 crore till Wednesday in the domestic market.

As for the International box-office, a strong market for Johar’s films, the film has managed to collect USD 7 million (47 crore INR) in the first six days.

“#ADHM crosses $ 7 million [₹ 46.67 cr] in the international arena on Tue. Passes the non-holiday test … Fri 13.30 cr, Sat 13.10 cr, Sun 9.20 cr, Mon 17.75 cr, Tue 13.03 cr, Wed 7.63 cr. Total: ₹ 74.01 cr,” said trade analyst Taran Adarsh in a series of tweets.

In comparison, 2016’s biggest hit, Sultan, had grossed approximately Rs 195 crore and Rs 104 crore at domestic and international box-office respectively.

According to the film’s producers, Fox Star Studios, the cost of production (inclusive of marketing and distribution) was Rs 100 crore. The revenue recovered (from music, satellite and digital) is Rs 75 crore.

The recovery to be made from theatrical revenue (domestic) is Rs 25 crore, which the film has already garnered.

“We are thrilled with the love that the audience have showered on ‘Ae Dil Hain Mushkil’ making it a hit this Diwali. In just six days, the film has done a business of Rs 74.01 crore in India.

“Internationally, the film is also performing outstandingly. It is a huge milestone for the film as it raced into being a hit for Dharma Productions and us,” Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, said in a statement.

In comparison, Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’, which clashed with the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer has earned Rs 64.36 crore at the domestic box-office.

“#Shivaay is SUPER-STRONG on Wed… Fri 10.24 cr, Sat 10.06 cr, Sun 8.26 cr, Mon 17.35 cr, Tue 11.05 cr, Wed 7.40 cr. Total: ₹ 64.36 cr,” tweeted Adarsh.

Although Shivaay’s international box-office collection isn’t in yet, the numbers are expected to be substantially lower than ADHM’s collection.

Shivaay, which released in more single screens, has won over the masses with its high-octane action. On the other hand ADHM, which released in more multiplexes, has managed to captivate fans of the romance-drama genre.

Both are expected to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office by the next week as there are no big Bollywood films releasing this week.
