Over 10 lakh street vendors across the country will be trained on conducting digital transactions with their customers to help them tide over the post-demonetisation cash crunch.

On Friday, the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) announced its tie up with mobile wallet MobiKwik to enable cashless transactions.

According to NASVI founder Arbind Singh, the livelihood of small and street vendors has been hit to a great extent following demonetisation and the partnership with MobiKwik can help them to a great extent during this time.

“Following demonetisation, street vendors across India have lost 70 per cent of their businesses and this solution will enable them to keep their businesses running,” Singh said.

Co-founder of MobiKwik, Upasana Taku, said the company constantly strives to develop solutions to bridge the gap between Bharat and India in tune with its motto ‘Desh Ke Liye, Desh Ka Wallet’.

“This association is imperative for us to support street vendors by educating them about the various e-payment options available to get payments from customers,” Taku said.

Over the next three months, it will train a over 10 lakh street vendors on this cashless facility and later extend it to over 30 lakh street vendors earning a livelihood in 24 states in India.

Meanwhile, MobiKwik’s rivals Paytm and FreeCharge have also been aggressively pursuing new partnerships to increase their presence in the rapidly growing digital payment space.

The government has been pushing businesses to go cashless in a bid to increase transparency and curb the circulation of black money.
