The BMC has announced water cuts in Central and South Mumbai on December 23 to carry out connection work of two major pipelines at Sion and Matunga.

The water cuts will affect households and commercial establishments in wards A, B, E, F-north and F-south.

According to a DNA report, multiple private hospitals, nursing homes and eight State Government and BMC run hospitals will also have to go without water for an entire day.

The hospitals affected by the water cut include K.E.M. Hospital, M G M Hospital, Tata Hospital, Wadia Hospital, T. B. Hospital, J. J. Hospital, St. Georges Hospital and Sion Hospital. Even CST station will not get water supply for 12 hours between 10 am to 10 pm.

According to a BMC official, the new pipeline is being laid to replace the old and corroded one, which has several leakage points.

The new 900 mm diameter pipeline will be laid near Sion Hospital and be connected to 1800 mm diameter main pipeline near Aurora Theatre. The work is expected to last 12 hours.

Once the new pipeline is laid, it will address the problem of frequent leakages, low pressure and improve overall water supply in the affected areas.

The BMC has requested citizens to store water in advance and use it sparingly during the day.
