Video: Alert driver stops train in nick of time, saves elderly at Charni Road Station

In a video that is now going viral on the internet, the loco pilot (driver) of a Mumbai suburban train can be seen saving the life of an elderly woman, who was walking on the tracks, by halting the rake in the nick of time.
According to sources, the video was recorded earlier this week at Charni Road station on the Western line of Mumbai suburban rail network.
In the video, the elderly woman can be seen walking on the tracks next to the platform as a local approaches. On spotting the train, she tries to climb on to the platform, but is unable to do so.
Fortunately, the loco pilot managed to halt the rake in time, saving the elderly woman’s life. Later, other passengers reach out to her and help her to the platform.
Further details about the time and date of the incident are awaited.
Despite the obvious risk, walking on train tracks is a common practise in Mumbai and across India. The ministry has tried to curb such practises with by making infrastructural changes and with the help of awareness programs, but with little success.
Just yesterday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also announced a rail safety fund of Rs 1 lakh crore, over a period of five years, while presenting the Union Budget 2017-18. The fund will be used to prevent such incidents in the future.
Update:
The incident took place around 11:30 pm on December 6, and the motorman in question was Sushilkumar Gautam.
Mukul Jain, Divisional Railway Manager of Western Railway, has said that the motorman be felicitated for halting the Churchgate-bound fast train on time.
The GRP, meanwhile, is still trying to trace the woman to take her statement.
