Fire breaks out in basement of Tata Cancer Hospital in Parel

A massive broke out in the basement of Tata Cancer Hospital in Parel area of Mumbai on Saturday morning.
The incident took place around 9 am at the Tata Memorial Hospital, more commonly referred to as the Tata Cancer Hospital. The facility is located at Dr Ernest Borges Road in Parel, Mumbai.
Fire department was immediately alerted about the incident by hospital authorities, following which, four fire tenders and four water tankers arrived on the spot. As of 10 am, fire fighting is still underway.
The blaze was categorised as the Level III fire and confined to the hospital’s basement. Meanwhile, authorities have started evacuating the premises.
“We received the call regarding the fire breaking out at 8.52 AM. Four fire engines and an equal number of water tankers were rushed to the site. The blaze was doused within a few minutes,” an official from the fire department told PTI.
The cause of fire is not known at the moment and details regarding casualties, if any, are awaited.
Founded in 1941, the Tata Memorial Centre is the national comprehensive cancer centre for the prevention, treatment, education and research in Cancer and is recognized as one of the leading cancer centres in this part of the world.
Update (11:30 am): An official has confirmed that the fire was confined to the wiring, electric installation in the basement area of the hospital building. The cause of the blaze will be ascertained after a thorough inquiry into the incident. No one was injured.
Update (1:45 pm): Senior Public Relations Officer of Tata Memorial Hospital S H Jafri, in a statement said, “Fire broke out in the basement of the main building, store room of dispensary. The fire has been brought under control. There is no casualty. All activities have resumed. The cause and extent of damage is being assessed.
