In a shocking incident, a resident doctor was brutally assaulted by a patient’s relatives for allegedly delaying treatment at the government hospital in Dhule, North Maharashtra. A video of the incident went viral today.

The incident took place on the night of March 12, health department official confirmed.

According to staffers, the doctor of Government Medical College (GMC) in Dhule was beaten by the patient’s relatives after he asked them to take him to another hospital due to the absence of an on-duty neurosurgeon.

The patient was brought to the facility with severe head injury.

Following the assault, the doctor suffered multiple injuries to his head, chest and abdomen area. He was also hit near the socket of the eye, on the orbital bone, which has affected his vision.

The doctor in question, Dr. Rohan Mhamunkar, is an orthopaedic and currently admitted in the ICU.

A CCTV camera footage of the incident shows at least 20-25 people beating the doctor inside the hospital premises.

The attackers, most of whom are believed to be the patient’s friends and family, were furious after being told to take the patient to another hospital.

Although a probe into the incident has been ordered, the resident doctors have gone on strike to protest against the assault on their colleague. The protesters have demanded protection from such acts of violence against doctors.
