Hotel Peninsula Grand at Sakinaka, Courtyard By Marriott at Andheri, and The Lalit at Sahar served notices

Continuing its crackdown on sale of drugs in the city, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Police launched an investigation into three top hotels in the city over the suspected sale of psychedelic drug LSD at parties on their premises.

According to a Mumbai Mirror report, the investigation was launched after five men were arrested for LSD possession from Malad on March 28. The accused were held with 1,400 dots of LSD worth Rs 70 lakh.

They were identified as Chirag Jain and Arbaaz Taj Mohammed Khan (students of Rithambara College in Juhu), Farhan Aqeel Khan (car and property dealer), Nikhil Rajan (software engineer) and Sameer Modi (employed with production house).

Shivdeep Lande, DCP (Anti-Narcotics Cell), confirmed that during questioning Jain told cops that they had sold drugs at The Lalit at Sahar, Courtyard By Marriott at Andheri, and Hotel Peninsula Grand at Sakinaka on a number of occasions.

They would sell drugs at the hotels during parties organized by renowned event management companies.

Following his statement, notices under the Criminal Procedure Code were issued to all three hotels.

“The officials from the three hotels have also been called for questioning. We have asked the hotels to submit the CCTV footage from their parties,” Sunil Mane, Senior Inspector of Kandivali unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, told the daily.

When contacted by Mirror, representatives from Marriott and The Lalit acknowledged the notice. The General Manager of Peninsula, however, refused to comment.

Banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) is one of the most popular party drugs in the world and has become increasingly popular in India over the last two decades.
