A biker, who was allegedly stopped by a traffic constable for jumping a signal in Vasai earlier this week, retaliated by slapping the public servant in full view of the public. The incident was captured on tape by onlookers and a nearby CCTV camera.

According to reports, the incident took place around 7 pm on Sunday, when the biker was travelling with his wife and kid.

The accused, identified as Sohail Memon, allegedly jumped a traffic signal near Parvati Cross in Vasai (West), following which he was stopped by the constable manning the signal. Memon, incidentally, was also riding without a helmet.

When constable Kalu Vitthal Munde directed him to stop alongside the road and furnish his license, Memon told him he did not flout any rules. When the constable did not relent, the biker retaliated by slapping the on-duty cop in front of bystanders.

Later, he got down from his bike, along with his wife and child, and got into an argument with Munde. During their altercation, Memon tried to hit the constable a few more times. However, the crowd overpowered him and pulled him away.

Munde, meanwhile, took a picture of the biker and his vehicle’s number plate. He then escorted Memon to Manickpur police station, where the constable filed a complaint against him.

The police registered a non-cognisable offence against the rider and allowed him to leave after a warning, Vasai Traffic Inspector Sampatrao Patil told ANI.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway post which the accused will likely be booked and arrested under section 353 of the IPC.

The entire incident was also captured by a nearby CCTV camera and multiple onlookers.

In the footage, which has gone viral in the last 24 hours, Memon can be clearly seen slapping the constable and trying to assault him a few more times.
