An IT professional, who returned to India after a year, was shocked to find the decomposed body of his 63-year-old mother at their residence in Andheri on Sunday.

The woman, identified as Asha Sahani, was a resident of Belscot Tower in Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri (West). She had been living alone in the apartment since the death of her husband in 2013.

According to officials, her only son, Rituraj, was the one who found her body.

“Rituraj landed in Mumbai on Sunday. After he reached their house in Lokhandwala, he rang the door bell, but did not get any response from inside. Rituraj then called a key maker and got the door opened around 4.30 pm,” the official said.

Upon entering he found his mother’s decomposed body.

To ascertain the exact cause and time of her death, Oshiwara police sent the body to Siddharth Hospital for a post mortem. Meanwhile, a case of accidental death has been registered.

Since the door was locked from the inside, police suspect that Asha might have died of natural causes. However, further investigation is underway.

Rituraj, a software engineer, stays in the US with his wife. He visits India once every year or six months to meet his mother.

He told cops that the last time he had spoken with his mother was in April last year when she reportedly informed him about moving to an old age home.
