Over 200 local train commuters die of peak hour stress per year

Data reveals that over 600 commuters died of suburban train stress in last three years

According to a data revealed by the Mumbai Police commissionerate to a leading daily, a total of 607 people have died of heart attacks in suburban railway premises and inside trains in three years.

The figures state that 206 people died in 2013 followed by 200 in 2014 and 201 in 2015. ‘Heart attacks and cardiological issues’ have been suspected to be the cause of these deaths by the railway police.

While a detailed study is needed to find out the actual cause, Railway officials believe that stress of suburban commuting and its saturation levels built up among commuters might be the possible reason for a large number of deaths.

Factors like anxiety and stress with fluctuating blood pressure, dehydration, sweat and humidity play a major role in a person having a heart attack.
