80’s Music icon Prince died at the age of 57

80’s iconic megastar, Prince, was found dead at his Paisley Park residence in Minnesota on Thursday.

The 57-year-old was treated for  drug overdose six days before his death. While officials refuse to comment on the drug-overdose report, the investigation for cause of death is underway. An autopsy is scheduled to take place today.

According to TIME.com, Prince was found “unresponsive” in an elevator and was unable to be revived from CPR attempts. His death was confirmed after police investigated reports of a fatality at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. The artist, who had been battling the flu for several weeks, was hospitalized on April 15 after his plane made an emergency landing in Illinois. He was later released to recover at home. Before his hospitalization, he had postponed two shows he was scheduled to play in Atlanta as part of his “Piano and a Microphone” tour.

Prince’s brilliant musical output in the ‘80s defined the decade with classic albums like ‘Kiss’,‘Purple Rain,’ ‘1999’ and ‘Sign o’ The Times,’ along with chart-topping singles including,’ ‘Little Red Corvette,’ and ‘Raspberry Beret’.

The “Purple Rain” soundtrack alone sold more than 13 million copies, earning Prince the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The music legend also had seven Grammys and an Oscar to his name.

News of Prince’s death sparked a massive outpouring of grief on social media. His fans from all over the world flocked to his famed studios and record stores to pick up Prince memorabilia.
