SC upholds Bombay HC decision, says no to holding IPL matches in Maharashtra 2

Agreeing with an earlier verdict given by the Bombay High Court, the Supreme Court today asked the Mumbai Cricket Association and Maharashtra Cricket Association to move all IPL matches scheduled in Maharashtra for May to another state.

The verdict, however, allowed the match between the Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians to continue as planned. That match will take place in Pune on May 1.

The cricketing bodies were involved in a legal battle in Bombay High Court over holding IPL matches in the drought-hit state. On April 14, the Bombay High Court had directed the BCCI to move all IPL matches post April 30 out of the drought-hit state. Later, the HC exempted one match which was scheduled on May 1.

The Mumbai Cricket Association and Maharashtra Cricket Association had moved Supreme Court on April 22 to challenge the Bombay HC verdict.
