Over 50 students from five city colleges went door-to-door in Goregaon to collect water for drought-hit village of Mankhurvadi in Beed.

As of today, there’s no bigger issue than water scarcity in the state of Maharashtra. As a result, many socially responsible citizens have taken it upon themselves to do their bit for saving and conserving water. Among them are students of five city colleges.

Anubhav Mumbai, an NGO which works with college students to drive social change, carried out a water collection drive in Goregaon West area from March 24. Helping the NGO were over 50 students from KES College, Vivek College, GTS College, Vidhya Vikas and Shailendra College.

The students visited over 50 housing societies from the area and requested residents to spare whatever water they could. After the students explained that the water was to be sent to a drought-hit village, residents donated generously.

The students managed to collect around 15,000 litres water from the drive. The water was packed into potable and non-potable bottles and labeled accordingly.

Then the NGO contacted the officials in Beed to take permission for distributing the water in the village of Mankhurvadi. After the officials gave a go ahead, the water was transported to the village in trucks.

People from Mankhurvadi receive water once in every 8-9 days. The water collected by the students ensured that the scarcity was limited to 5 days, at least once.
