Gutsy granny thrashes robbers with her walking stick in Dadar

1. 81-year-old Pushpaben Bhalla, a resident of Dadar, was on her way to the Hanuman temple outside her complex when a group of robbers, posing as cops, tried to mug her.

2. Around 9 am on Wednesday, when Pushpaben stepped out of her building’s gate, a stranger approached her and told her he was with the Mumbai Crime Branch and often patrols the area in civil clothes. He also asked the woman to remove her gold bangles worth around Rs 60,000 and hand it over to him as the area wasn’t safe.

3. He assured her of returning the bangles as soon as she crossed the alleged danger zone. Pushpaben, who was already skeptical about his behaviour, refused to part ways with the valuables. She also noticed that the man was accompanied by two more persons who were sitting in a cab parked nearby.

4. When Pushpaben started walking off, the robbers tried to grab her hand. This annoyed Pushpaben and she retaliated by hitting them with her walking stick. A vegetable vendor soon noticed the fight and came to the woman’s rescue. Soon, other pedestrians overpowered the men, while one of them informed the police.

5. The main accused was identified as Ali Raza Aziz Jaffari and the trio was arrested by the RAK Marg police before they could flee.
