Actor Sanjay Dutt will be seen playing lead role in the Hindi remake of the popular Marathi film ‘De Dhakka’, which is set to go on floors next year.

While the news of Dutt, who turned 57 years old today, being a part of the film is confirmed, the rest of the cast is yet to be finalized.

According to an official statement by the makers, the film will be helmed by actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar and produced under the banner of Sandeep Singh and Omung Kumar’s production house Legend Studios.

Dutt walked out a free man from jail earlier this year, two decades after being charged with possession of an assault rifle. Since his release, the actor has been receiving plenty of new film offers.

Earlier, the ‘Munnabhai’ actor was scheduled to start an untitled film with Siddharth Anand, but it got delayed. Apart from that, Dutt will also be seen in ‘Total Dhamaal’.

‘De Dhakka’ is a story of a six-member family whose journey to Mumbai helps them rediscover the meaning of relationships. The original film was known for its hilarious situations and emotional connect, the essence of which fans would expect the Hindi remake to retain.

Dutt and Manjrekar have previously worked together in the 1999 blockbuster ‘Vaastav: The Reality’, which went on to become one of the biggest cult classics of modern Hindi cinema. The duo are looking forward to working together after a long gap.

When asked about the development, Manjrekar said, “I was contemplating working with him as I wanted to work on something different, something that would surprise the audience. Then ‘De Dhakka’ came and I felt it was the perfect subject. Sanjay will have the family audience and youth rooting.”
