Balasaheb Thackeray & Akshay Kumar

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar told reporters on Monday that he doesn’t know if he is the ‘right guy’ to play the late Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray in his biopic, claiming that it was something the makers need to decide.

Akshay was attending the success party of his recently released film ‘Rustom’ when he was asked if he would like to play the character of Balasaheb, to which he said, “I don’t know whether I suit the character first of all, whoever makes it will have to first think if I suit the character or not.”

When a reporter asked if the actor himself thought he would suit the character, he responded by saying, “I don’t know about it. Rather people should think about it, because it is not a small personality, it’s a big personality that you’re talking about. So I cannot answer it like this.”

Thackeray’s grandson Rahul and his daughter-in-law Smita are making a biopic on the late leader, and Akshay is allegedly one of the actors the makers are considering for the role. The actor’s last outing, Rustom, was also on the lines of a biopic, where he essayed the role of a Naval officer who shot his wife’s lover.

When asked about the new wave of biopics in Bollywood, the ‘Baby’ actor said, “I think biopics have been picked up by audience in a good way and it’s great that biopic is about a great person’s story which comes in front of the audience and they would love to see how they became great, so it’s good to make biopics. Biopics work for India, so it’s good that India is making it.”

Akshay also spoke about the success of ‘Rustom’, which has went on to collect over Rs 50 crore in the first three days.

On the success of the film he said, “I felt very good when the audience response was good. As far as the collections are concerned, I am not an ‘antaryami’, I can’t say till where the collections will go. I can definitely say that it felt very good that the opening of the film was good. It was not confidence, I was nervous. when a film releases, no one knows about what is going to happen. And definitely, I had liked its screenplay and the script and that’s why I had done the film. That was the only confidence, but there was nervousness.”

Akshay’s upcoming projects include Jolly LLB 2 and the sequel of Rajinikanth’s Robot, where he plays the antagonist.
