The makers of ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ have refuted the rumours that politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has quit the comedy show.

There has been speculation for a while about Sidhu leaving the show, hosted by popular stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma, in the light of the forthcoming Punjab Assembly polls.

The 52-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has launched a non-political front, ‘Awaaz-E-Punjab’. Prior to that, he had resigned from the BJP and quit his Rajya Sabha membership on July 18.

Sidhu’s wife has reportedly said in an interview that he will now completely focus on Punjab politics, and that he has recorded all the shows till September 30 and already said goodbye to the cast.

Her statements fuelled rumours of his exit from the show.

Preeti Simoes, creative head of K9 Productions (Kapil’s production company), said in a statement that, “There is no notice served by Navjot Sidhu to Sony Entertainment Television. A reaction on this issue is unnecessary. All propaganda that he’s leaving is false.”

The former cricketer has been an integral part of the show since inception.

On the political front, Sidhu issued a statement claiming that Aawaz-e-Punjab forum welcomes any alliance for the betterment of Punjab and will not be a political party, asserting that he would not like to divide the anti-Badal and anti-Amrinder votes in the state assembly elections by creating another party.

In response, Punjab Congress president Capt. Amarinder Singh said, “Mr. Sidhu must have realised that he fits better in a comedy show than anywhere else, including politics.”
