Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday shared the results of the first five lakh respondents who took the demonetization survey on his app, with an overwhelming majority supporting the decision.
PM had urged citizens to express their views about the government’s decision to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on Tuesday in the wake of the staunch opposition from rival political parties.
Following demonetization, the opposition cried foul and called for a rollback, but the BJP-led government maintained that citizens at large had welcomed the decision.
To end the speculation surrounding the policy and get a pulse of what the general public is feeling, PM had asked citizens to take a short survey on the official Narendra Modi app.
“I want your first-hand view on the decision taken regarding currency notes. Take part in the survey on the NM App,” he had tweeted.
The results of the survey taken via the Narendra Modi app are summarized in the above image.
# Over 5 lakh respondents took the survey in the first 30 hours.
# Almost all respondents feel that black money exists in India and should be eliminated, but no surprises here.
# An overwhelming majority (92%) of respondents have supported the move.
# 48% of respondents were inconvenienced because of demonetization, but said it was worth it. 8% did not think it was worth the effort.
“Yeh toh hona hi tha! The survey was taken on the Narendra Modi app which is only installed by people who support the BJP or Narendra Modi. Most of the people who oppose their policies will not even have the app, forget taking a survey on it. All this survey proves is that there are some Modi supporters also who did not think this was a good idea,” said a Congress leader from Mumbai, who wished to remain unnamed.
In yet another survey conducted by C-Voter poll, an international polling agency, over 80 percent of both rural and urban Indians had welcomed the move.
