Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu was in the city on Sunday to inaugurate a host of new facilities for Mumbai rail commuters, including free Wi-Fi at nine more suburban stations.

“Wi-Fi at stations are facilitating digital inclusion and helping create ecosystem for cashless transactions and less cash economy,” Prabhu said post launch.

The free Wi-Fi service was rolled out at the following stations from today, Andheri, Kurla, CST, Thane, Vashi, Belapur, Byculla, Panvel and Borivali.

While most of these stations were scheduled to get the service months back, the launch was delayed due to unknown reasons.

Earlier in January, Mumbai Central became the first station in the country to get the free wi-fi service as a part of Railway’s goal of providing better services to commuters. Today, the facility is used by over 50,000 commuters.
