A Mumbai-bound Jet Airways flight carrying 154 passengers and 7 crew members skidded off the runway while taking off at Dabolim airport in Goa early morning on Tuesday. The flight spun 360 degrees after it aborted take-off.

According to preliminary information, 15 out of 154 passengers who were onboard the Jet Airways flight 9W 2374 sustained minor injuries while jumping off the inflated escape chutes used for emergency evacuations.

Some of the passengers, who had reportedly suffered fractures, were put on stretchers and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. No one was seriously injured.

“The flight 9W 2374 from Goa-Mumbai skidded off the runway at Dabolim airport this morning due to a technical glitch while aligning for takeoff,” Jet Airways said in a statement.

“All guests and crew have been safely evacuated. Few guests have sustained injuries during the evacuation process and medical assistance is being coordinated by the Jet Airways team and the airport authorities,” it added.

The flight, while taking off from HANSA runway 26, aborted take off and spun around 360 degrees, the Indian Navy said. Images taken by the airport staff showed that the aircraft’s landing gear had completely collapsed.

Eyewitnesses also said that the aircraft tilted forward while the passengers were evacuating, causing a scare.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the mishap, news agency ANI reported.

Goa Airport was closed for a few hours following the incident. It resumed operations around 12:10 pm.
