Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday inaugurated a host of new facilities for Mumbai suburban commuters, including free Wi-Fi at nine more stations, new 15 coach rakes, new outstation train from Bandra, fast locals at Diva station among others.

Prabhu inaugurated the new amenities and services from Bandra Terminus today afternoon in the presence of over a dozen dignitaries and media persons.

The new facilities are a part of Railways’ plan to improve services and ease the plight of millions of commuters travelling on the world’s busiest railway network.

The complete list of new amenities and services inaugurated today is given below:

Fast locals at Diva

Fast local services were launched at Diva station on the Central line from today. 24 fast locals will ply on the route daily, with the first one flagged off from Diva at 6:55 am.

Free Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi service was launched at 9 more stations. The stations were the service was launched today includes Andheri, Kurla, CST, Thane, Vashi, Belapur, Byculla, Panvel and Borivali.

15 coach rakes

Twelve twelve 15-coach services were inducted on the Western line. The 15-coach service will replace the existing 12-coach ones.

New train

A new weekly outstation service was launched between Bandra and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) stations.

New platform

One of the busiest stations on the Western line, Dadar, got a new platform (Platform 7).

New escalators

New escalators were inaugurated Dadar (West), Bhayandar and Vasai Road stations.

New FOB

A new foot-over-bridge was inaugurated at Mankhurd station.
