In a bizzare twist, the Tardeo police have found out that the 28-year-old, who claimed to have been attacked by an unknown assailant near Mahalaxmi on Thursday night, had cooked up the entire story to gain the sympathy of her boyfriend’s parents.

The woman, identified as Priyanka Hetpure, visited Nair Hospital with her boyfriend around 8 pm on Thursday with minor stab wounds. Per protocol, the staff of Nair Hospital informed police about the incident around 8:30 pm.

Post which, officials from Tardeo police station arrived at the hospital and took her first statement.

Sanjay Surve, Senior Police Inspector with Tardeo Police, told Local Press Co, “Hetpure told police that an unknown person attacked her with a knife while she was waiting for her boyfriend outside Gate No. 1 of Mahalaxmi Racecourse. Her boyfriend reached the spot, and upon finding her in an injured state, rushed her to the hospital.”

On the basis of her statement, police registered an assault case against the unidentified person and began investigation.

During questioning, however, Hetpure’s boyfriend confessed that her statement was false and that she had attacked herself.

“The boyfriend told us that the couple had got into a heated argument over marriage plans, following which she removed the pocket knife from her purse and stabbed herself,” Surve said. Later, she also admitted to have faked the attack.

Hetpure, who has a 5-year-old kid from her last marriage, has been dating the 22-year-old guy since sometime. But his parents are against their relationship.

After all attempts of convincing them failed, Hetpure decided to stab herself to gain his parent’s sympathy and show how much the couple loved each other.

Hetpure is still being treated at Nair Hospital and cops have sought legal opinion on whether a case should be registered against the couple for misleading the police.
