The 14th edition of the Standard Charted Mumbai Marathon 2017 was flagged-off from the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in Mumbai on Sunday morning.
The marathon witnessed participation from a number of Bollywood celebrities, top sportspersons, corporate bigwigs and commoners, all enthusiastically making a ‘run for it’.
According to organizers, more than 40000 runners from different corners of the world took part in the marathon, including 53 elite international and Indian runners.
The turnout for the marathon was the highest this year, with 6,342 running the Full Marathon (42.195-km), 14,663 running the Half Marathon and 19,980 participating in the Dream Run.
The full marathon for amateurs was flagged off at 5.40 am and was followed by the full marathon for the elite and Indian athletes at 7.20 am. Both of these races ended at the CST.
The half marathon race was flagged off at 5.40 am from Worli Dairy. The route went all the way till Sea Link and back the same route to finish opposite the CST.
The 14th edition of marathon saw India’s biggest names in track and field and distance running athletes participating.
Olympian Kheta Ram, who clocked his personal best at the Rio Olympics last year, also took part. Other athletes Elam Singh and Mohd Yunus also ran the full marathon.
In the women’s event, Maharashtra’s Jyoti Gawade along with Jigmet Dolma and Tsetan Dockar competed in the full marathon. Kenya’s Levy Matebo, Ethiopia’s Seboka Dibaba and Rio Olympic 2016 Games fifth-place finisher Alphonce Simbu competed for the full marathon.
