In a rare case, Goregaon Police on Friday arrested a 25-year-old woman for throwing acid on her ex-boyfriend after the latter broke up with her.

The accused, Meera Sharma, was reportedly in a relationship with Om Singh Solanki since the last four years. Solanki worked as a salesman at a store in Goregaon, while Sharma was a homemaker.

Their relationship hit a rough patch over the last few months, following which Solanki decided to end the relationship. Sharma, on the other hand, wanted to relationship to continue.

The accused repeatedly tried to get in touch with Solanki after breaking up, but to no avail. When he finally relented, the former couple met near his workplace at MG Road, Goregaon around 6 pm on Thursday.

During their meet, the duo got into an altercation. A few minutes later, Sharma suddenly removed a small bottle of acid from her purse and flung it at Solanki.

Although the 26-year-old managed to duck in time, he sustained burns on his face and hands. Bystanders came to Solanki’s rescue and rushed him to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon, where the victim is still admitted and recovering.

Sharma, meanwhile, was handed over to Goregaon police. She was questioned about the incident on Friday, post which the police arrested her for voluntarily causing injury using acid.

Sharma had reportedly met Solanki with the intention of taking revenge.
