Bike ambulances being flagged off by Fadnavis, Thackeray and others. Mumbaikars can avail the service by dialing ‘108’

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday launched a bike ambulance service in the city and state to help citizens in case of medical emergencies.

While addressing the crowd during the launch event at GMC Gymkhana in Marine Drive, Fadnavis said that the ‘Shiva Swasthya Seva’ was being introduced with the intention of keeping the state safe and health.

“We want our state to be healthy and safe and we are committed to it,” he was quoted saying.

To start off, ten motorbike ambulances equipped with all the necessary facilities required before hospitalization were introduced. The bikes will be ridden by a trained paramedics.

Apart from the CM, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, health minister Dr Deepak Sawant, state minister Vijay Deshmukh, Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and a few other dignitaries were present during the inaugural ceremony.

Fadnavis and Thackeray flagged off the ambulances and dedicated the service to all Mumbaikars, who can use it in case of an emergency by dialing ‘108’.

The CM also said that the ambulance service in the state could help save more than 17 lakh lives, especially in areas like Mumbai where congestion is rampant and Melghat, where four wheeler ambulances have limited reach.

“Motorbike ambulances will be useful in Mumbai during peak hours of traffic and in Melghat like regions where four wheeler ambulances can’t reach,” the CM said.

The bike ambulances will be stationed in Bhandup, Mankhurd, Nagpada, Malad, Charkop, Goregaon, Kandivali, Kalina and Khar Danda areas.

With the launch of ‘Shiva Swasthya Seva’, Maharashtra has become the fourth state in the country – after Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka – to launch a bike ambulance service.
