The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday served notices to megastar Amitabh Bachchan and director Rajkumar Hirani, among others, over alleged illegal constructions at their properties.

In case of Bachchan, the civic body has alleged that the star carried out illegal constructions at his new bungalow in Goregaon (E) under Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.

Apart from the 75-year-old, notices have been served to PK director Rajkumar Hirani, Oberoi Realty, Pankaj Balaji, Sanjay Vyas, Haresh Khandelwal and Haresh Jagtani for illegal construction carried out outside their luxury bungalows near Film City.

The information came to light after Right to Information (RTI) activist Anil Galgali sought information from P South Ward Office of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) about the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) notice issued against Bachchan and seven others.

“In 2016, Municipal Corporation had issued MRTP notice to Big B and seven others. They have made illegal construction in their Goregaon bungalow. They have made changes in their main maps for making illegal construction,” ANI quoted Galgali saying.

According to the information received by Galgali, the notice was issued to seven persons on December 7, 2016 for the changes in their approved plans.

Following the MRTP notices, architect Shashank Kokil submitted proposal on January 5, 2017, which was rejected by the MCGM’s Building Proposal department on March 17.

On May 6, the P South Ward office issued a final orders to remove the violation and continue with the sanctioned plans. After the ward issued another notice stating that the due to non clarity of the regularisation proposal, Kokil resubmitted the plans.

The social media activist has also penned a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, demanding immediate action and carry out demolition of illegal extension.

In the recent past, the civic body has raised illegal and unauthorised constructions at properties owned by Shah Rukh Khan, Kapil Sharma among others.
