A 40-year-old man committed suicide by jumping off the Bandra-Worli sealink in Mumbai on Monday night. His body was fished out today morning.

According to reports, the man took a taxi from Haji Ali to travel to Bandra yesterday. When the cab reached the sealink, he asked the driver to stop the vehicle so he could relieve himself.

Since halting on the Bandra-Worli sealink is forbidden, the driver refused to comply with his request. However, the passenger fought with him and got him to stop the car.

Immediately after getting down from the vehicle, and before the driver could try and stop him, the man jumped off the bridge.

The incident took place around 9 pm and Worli police subsequently registered a case of accidental death.

The man’s body was eventually recovered today morning and sent to Nair Hospital for postmortem. As of publishing this report, cops have been unable to identify the man.

A police probe is underway and further details are awaited.

At least ten people have committed suicide by jumping off the Bandra-Worli sealink in the last five years. Most recently, a 24-year-old Bandra-resident committed suicide by jumping off the bridge in July.

Despite their best efforts, like installing CCTV cameras and increasing vigilance on the sealink, authorities have been unable to completely stop such attempts.
