Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials on Wednesday demolished parts of popular Bandra eateries – Mini Punjab and Bombay Barbeque – over alleged civic violations.

Officials from the H-West ward arrived at Mini Punjab, located at the junction of 16th & 33rd Road in Bandra West, around noon today with a police escort to demolish illegal extensions.

“Most of the outer structure had to be demolished as the owners had made illegal extensions and encroached upon open space,” a civic official told Local Press Co. The outer section of both ground and first floor was razed.

According to one source, the civic body had notified the owners about the civic violations and asked them to clear the open space prior to taking action. However, the same is yet to be independently verified from the restaurant’s management.

Later, a team of civic and police officials reached Bombay Barbeque, located at the ground floor of Om Palace building at Doctor BR Ambedkar Road in Pali Hill.

They razed parts of the restaurant’s shed and outer section for allegedly encroaching upon the footpath.

Over the last few years, Bandra has become a hub for revellers due to the sheer variety of options on offer. Incidentally, both Mini Punjab and Bombay Barbeque are among the most popular eating destinations for food lovers in the suburbs.

Earlier in September, officials from H-West ward had demolished the illegal extensions of 25 establishments in the area, including the seating area outside popular pub Toto’s Garage. Another 30 unauthorised stalls and hawkers were also removed.
