In a shocking incident, a female sub-inspector physically assaulted a devotee who objected to her wearing a gown inside a temple in Kalyan earlier this week. The episode was caught on a CCTV camera installed nearby.

The incident took place around 7:15 pm on Monday, when sub-inspector Pratiksha Lakade visited Tisai temple, located at Tisgoan Road in Kalyan.

The official had worn a gown at the time, which drew the attention of a few women sitting on a parapet inside the premises.

According to an eye-witness, one of the women made a remark about Lakade’s clothes, which irked her. The official responded by confronting the woman, a local identified as Asha Gaikwad.

A heated argument broke out, which subsequently led to a physical altercation between the cop and the local.

The CCTV footage of the incident shows Lakade repeatedly assaulting Gaikwad, while others watch helplessly. A few seconds into the beating, a man tries to intervene, but fails to stop the cop.

Towards the end of the two-minute footage, the official can be seen pushing the other woman to the ground and kicking her while a big crowd starts gathering around them.

The video of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday, following which many netizens demanded justice for the victim.

Meanwhile, a complaint has been registered against both women and no action has been taken agains the cop so far.

The temple authorities have reportedly banned women from entering the premises in non-traditional or western clothing, which might have led the devotee to object to the official’s attire.
