Apologise for insulting Navy: Congress to Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

The Maharashtra unit of Congress on Friday lashed out at Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for insulting the Indian Navy and demanded an apology from him. The party also alleged that his comment damaged the morale of Navy officers.

“Gadkari should apologise for insulting the Indian Navy by saying he will not give an inch of land to Navy officers in Mumbai and asking them to go on Pakistan border,” Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said.

Gadkari’s remark about Navy personnel wanting to stay in South Mumbai drew flak from the opposition party. “They (Navy) had come to me, asking for a plot. I will not give even an inch of land,” the minister had said during a ceremony in Mumbai yesterday.

The BJP minister’s statement came in the backdrop of the Navy declining permission for building a floating jetty at Malabar Hill in south Mumbai, where a floating hotel and seaplane service are planned.
