Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty Kundra courted controversy with their ‘bhangi’ remark

An application was filed in Mumbai’s Bhoiwada Court on Wednesday seeking FIR against Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty Kundra for allegedly using the word ‘bhangi ‘in a derogatory way and hurting sentiments of Valmiki community.

Salman had reportedly used the word last month while referring to his dancing skills, while Shilpa had used the word to describe how she looked at home.

A complaint was later filed against the two in Rajasthan’s Churu district, following which they were booked under relevant sections of SC/ST Act and summoned by Deputy SP, Hukum Singh on January 15. The two, however, failed to appear and have now been asked to come without fail on January 22.

Earlier, a complaint was also filed against the actors in Mumbai. Even the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) had sought replies from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the police commissioners of Delhi and Mumbai over the issue.
