Mumbai Police has clarified that no curfew has been imposed in Mumbai in the wake of the Dalit protests and urged citizens to not spread or believe rumours on social media.

“Don’t believe in rumours. Traffic on Eastern expressway was affected due to protests. It’s moving now. Traffic at Chembur Naka is still affected. There is nothing to panic. Verify facts with police officers and men before posting anything on social media,” it tweeted.

It also quashed rumours suggesting Section 144, pertaining to unlawful assembly, had been imposed in the city. “Section 144 has not been imposed in Chembur or other parts of eastern suburbs,” Mumbai Police PRO told ANI.

Meanwhile, hundreds of police personnel have been deployed in affected areas like Mulund, Chembur, Bandra among others to ensure no untoward incident takes place.
