Officials were shocked to find two suspected crude bombs at the Metro digging site near Mumbai Central station on Wednesday evening.

Mukesh Kumar, deployed at the station’s main gate, informed the on-duty officer about the material around 4 pm today, following which a dog squad was pressed into action and Nagpada Police was informed.

Officials from Nagpada police subsequently reached the excavation site along with Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS) members of Maharashtra police. “Out of the two bombs, one was in closed condition and another was in open  condition, which was diffused by BDDS team on the spot,” said AK Singh, Chief Security Officer.

After the necessary investigation, PSI Nilesh Shevale prepared a punchnama, seized the material and sent it to the forensic lab in Kalina for evaluation.
